How to Remove Stickers from a Car

Whether your children got carried away with their arts and crafts supplies, or you’re someone who likes to decorate their rear window, there are plenty of times when you may need to know how to remove stickers from a car. Luckily, getting stickers off your car’s body or windows is a relatively easy process with the right products. Read the guide below by the service experts at North Bay GMC to learn how to get stickers off of your car.

How to Get Stickers off a Car’s Exterior

If you’re planning to remove the stickers on your Manhasset ride without damaging the paint, you’ll need to get the following materials:

  • A bit of car washing soap
  • Hairdryer
  • Plastic card (library card, membership card, etc.)
  • Tree sap remover or Goo Gone Automotive
  • Clean, dry towels

Once you have everything you need, follow these steps to remove stickers from the body of your car:

  1. Use the car wash soap to clean the entire sticker and the surrounding area.
  2. Turn the hairdryer on hot and hold it about two or three inches away from the sticker for a few seconds. Make sure that you’re hitting the entire sticker with heat, and work from the inside out.
  3. Once the sticker is heated, gently push your plastic card under the sticker’s edges. If you notice the adhesive residue starting to lift, you should be able to slowly peel the rest off. You may have to heat it again and repeat the process, as the sticker might come off in bits and pieces.
  4. There may be a layer of residue remaining once you’ve peeled off the sticker. To remove the residue, take your clean, dry cloth and some tree sap remover or Goo Gone Automotive and wipe with gentle pressure until the residue is gone.

How to Get Stickers off a Car Window

Removing stickers from your window is a slightly different process. First, you won’t need a hairdryer, and instead of a plastic card, you can use a razor blade. If your windows are tinted, never use a razor blade on them. Below is a list of all of the products you’ll need:

  • Razor blade
  • Clean, dry towels
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Dish soap and hot water

After you’ve gathered the proper materials, here’s how Bayside drivers can get stickers off of car windows:

  1. Use the razor blade to peel up a bit of the sticker, then remove it as cleanly as you can by hand.
  2. Dip your clean towel into the dish soap and hot water mixture, then rub the sticker residue until it begins to go away. This may be all that you’ll have to do, or you may have to follow the next steps.
  3. If the soap and hot water don’t get rid of all of the sticker residue, take the razor blade and carefully scrape at the residue until it lifts.
  4. If the previous steps don’t remove the sticky residue, soak a paper towel in rubbing alcohol and scrub it. Once you’re done, a clean towel soaked in water will be sufficient to clean the area.
